Cortina d’ Ampezzo is preparing to welcome the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and return to the center of international attention. However, it will not only be the beauty of the landscape that will speak of us but the way we will know how to welcome those arriving in the valley: the smile, the stories, the ability to orient and make everyone feel “at home.”Cortina has always been synonymous with hospitality, style and quality of life in the mountains. Today these values become a shared project: to build a network of people who know how to tell the story of the area, preserve its identity and transmit it to visitors, spectators, media and guests from all over the world.

This is the spirit behind the Cortina Welcome Team 2026, the volunteer program dedicated to welcoming tourists during the Games – an initiative of Cortina Marketing, implemented in collaboration with the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo. Not just an operational support service but a true community of “ambassadors” of the valley: volunteers who know Cortina, share its values and are ready to get involved to represent its most authentic face.

For this reason, the Municipality of Cortina d’ Ampezzo invites all citizens, young and old, residents and afficionados of the area, to apply and become part of the Cortina Welcome Team 2026: a great team that will accompany the public to the places of interest, in the welcoming spaces and strategic points of the town, helping to make the experience of the Games easier, smoother and more human.

An educational and unique experience

Becoming a Welcome Team volunteer means experiencing the Games from the inside, helping to tell the story of Cortina and making every visitor feel welcomed and oriented.

To better prepare each participant, a training course of about 15 hours is offered, dedicated to:

● local knowledge, traditions, identity and history

reception, public relations and cross-cultural communication

mobility, venue, logistics and services during the Games

● Olympic values and community spirit

● basics of safety and audience management

Upon completion, each volunteer will receive a certificate and officially join the Welcome Cortina 2026 network, as per the official training program.

A recognizable, prepared, leading team

To best fulfill their role as ambassadors for the city, all volunteers will receive:

● a specially created uniform (jacket, fleece, hat)

● an operation kit with backpack and water bottle

● insurance, meal vouchers and logistical support during shifts

● training and official program materials

The commitment required varies according to shifts, but what counts is the spirit: availability, enthusiasm, and a desire to represent Cortina with pride and authenticity, in line with the values that guide the project.

Open applications

All information and the application form are available on the official website: https://cortina.dolomiti.org/cortinawelcometeam2026/

The City invites anyone who wishes to participate in this extraordinary adventure-students, residents, historic volunteers, sports enthusiasts, local connoisseurs, active people of all ages-to join this great team.

Statement by Deputy Mayor Roberta Alverà

“With the Cortina Welcome Team 2026 we are asking our community to do what has always set it apart: welcoming. Volunteers will not simply be organizational support but the first face that people from all over the world will meet when they arrive in Cortina.

Through this project we want to enhance the identity of our valley, its stories, its traditions and pass them on to those who will come here to follow the Games. Each volunteer will be an ambassador of Cortina, of its beauty but also of its mountain spirit, sense of community and respect for the territory.

It is an invitation open to everyone: to young people who want to prove themselves, to those who live and work here all year round, to those who love Cortina and want to give something back to it. Together we can build a reception that is up to a global event and leave a legacy that will go beyond 2026>>

November 19, 2025 represents a historic date for our community: the ‘Eugenio Monti’ Sliding Centre in Cortina d’Ampezzo has received official homologation certification from the International Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge Federations (IBSF).

This is a fundamental step that confirms the full compliance of the facility with the technical standards required for Olympic and international competitions.
The homologation comes at the end of a complex path made up of intense work, verifications, tests and collaborations with world-class technicians and athletes. The inspections carried out in recent days have given positive results on all aspects: safety, ice quality, supporting infrastructure and general functionality of the track, sanctioning the full technical compliance of the facility with world standards.

The facility, designed with advanced high-performance refrigeration system and environmentally friendly solutions, is now ready for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
And already from November 21 to 23, 2025, it debuted in the first leg of the international World Cup circuit, meeting with great success among athletes and sportsmen and women who tried the circuit.
An achievement that reflects months of intense work, coordination and strategic vision, and that delivers to Cortina a state-of-the-art facility that is functional, safe and capable of accommodating the challenges and opportunities of the global sports scene in the coming years.

Statement by Gianluca Lorenzi Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

“Today’s is an important acknowledgement, which fills us with satisfaction, of the enormous success that the Sliding Centre is proving to be able to express. On the one hand from a competitive point of view, thanks to the athletes we have had the honor of hosting these days; on the other hand for the value of the homologation and the debut with the World Cup, which confirm the quality of the facility.

The greatest satisfaction, however, is to see the community reappropriate this historic place and live it with enthusiasm: our volunteers, supporters, associations and the whole world that revolves around bobbing culture have shown extraordinary commitment, restoring life and identity to a structure that is truly Cortina’s again.

I thank the Government Commissioner for making this achievement possible, which for many seemed like a miracle. It was exciting to see the races broadcast in Italy and abroad, with images of our valley, our mountains and a Cortina that showed itself ready, thanks also to the snowfall that framed this weekend in the best possible way.

I invite everyone to experience this Olympic energy, to share the positive spirit that these sports bring and to look forward to the future with confidence. The Olympics are already bringing added value to our community and will be an opportunity for a true sports renaissance, not only for Cortina but for the entire territory.”

On the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, for reasons of public order, in agreement with the Prefecture, Police Headquarters and law enforcement agencies, some areas of the territory of Cortina d’Ampezzo will be affected by an extraordinary system of traffic regulation through the introduction of temporary Limited Traffic Zones: the Olympic and Paralympic Limited Traffic Zones.

These measures are active only on race days and during specific time slots, with the aim of ensuring the safety of the event and its spectators, while minimizing the impact on the daily lives of residents.

The areas covered by the Olympic and Paralympic ZTLs will be within the boundaries of the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

During the periods of activation of the extraordinary LTZs, access will be allowed only to vehicles with the appropriate badge: the “Pass Auto Territori,” to be displayed on the windshield.

This system will guarantee free movement to all those entitled to the Auto Pass-residents, second-home owners, commuting workers, commercial and production activities, hospitality facilities and their guests, delivery or logistics services, and other authorized categories indicated in the platform-while restricting access to unauthorized vehicles.

This will make it possible to reconcile the holding of the competitions with local mobility, limiting the access of private vehicles to the most sensitive areas and encouraging the use of public transport, which will be enhanced for the occasion and which has always been one of the sustainability choices adopted by the Games Organizing Committee.

Important: Extraordinary LTZs will only regulate access to cities: therefore, it will always be possible to leave freely.

How to Apply for a Car Pass

The application for the Car Pass should be made through the platform https://passauto.milanocortina2026.org/it/

This tool will enable:

– consult in detail which territories will be subject to the Olympic and Paralympic ZTLs and in which time frames;

– Check whether one’s place of residence, work or interest falls within these areas;

– Be guided step by step until the application is submitted with the correct documentation. The documentation required for access is: the license plate of the car, the digital copria of one’s ID card, and the TARI.
Non-resident citizens who need TARI documentation can find it on the portal of the collection company SOLORI SPA which can be accessed through SPID at the following link: https://portal.sintaxinformatica.it/portal/solori/#/dashboard/home

Each request will be reviewed and, if valid, directions will be provided for picking up the Auto Pass at the dedicated points.

Two types of Auto Passes are provided:

  • Multi-day passes

Aimed at residents, workers, logistics, accommodations, second-home owners and other categories that have a continuous need for access throughout the period of the Games.

The application for the Auto Pass can be submitted online from now until December 31, 2025. Please get active as soon as possible: the sooner you apply for the pass, the sooner you can collect it.

Pick-up must be done in person with an ID during the period between November 17, 2025 and January 15, 2026, by going to the Cortina Foundation offices located in Rome Square, next to the Infopoint. For info: mobilita@fondazionecortina.com

  • Day passes

Intended for those who need occasional access (guests, deliveries, occasional suppliers and other categories).

The request for the Auto Pass can be made at any time, online or – when active – at the distribution points. The request for the daily Auto Pass can also be made for the same day, exclusively at the dedicated points.

Collection must be made in person during the Games period at dedicated points.

Without Pass

Vehicles without Auto Passes will only be allowed to pass through the gates during the hours when the Olympic and Paralympic LTZs are not active.

The Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo informs that yesterday (Wednesday, November 5), the new digital platform dedicated to the issuance of passes for the Olympic event was activated in test mode. This activation represents an important technical test in view of the official opening, scheduled for Friday, November 7, when the service will be fully operational and accessible to all citizens.

With the approach of the Winter Olympic Games, now less than a hundred days away from their start, the work of the Municipal Administration and all the entities involved is intensifying.
For the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, the commitment is twofold: on the one hand to ensure an efficient and coordinated organization of the event, and on the other to contain the impact on the territory as much as possible, protecting the environment, local mobility and the quality of life of residents.

Great satisfaction was expressed by Mayor Gianluca Lorenzi and Councillor Stefano Ghezze, who emphasized how, at the end of a long process of discussion and numerous technical tables, the results of the work done are finally maturing.

Mayor Gianluca Lorenzi has no doubts. “Beyond the importance of the event, we are working to ensure the maximum livability of the area. From Friday, the real communication begins, after the months spent discussing on working tables.”

DeclaresCouncillor Stefano Ghezze, “We are happy to be able to start giving concrete answers to the citizens and operators in the area, knowing how much these answers were expected and how necessary it was to finally give timely answers.”

Starting Friday, November 7, it will then be possible to apply for passes online on the appropriate platform. Afterwards, the passes can be picked up at the Cortina Foundation offices, located in Piazza Roma, next to the Infopoint. Dedicated staff will be available to provide assistance and answer any doubts or critical issues related to the procedure.

The Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo would like to thank all the technicians and collaborators who contributed to the realization of the platform, which is considered a key step toward modern, efficient and sustainable management of services related to the Olympic event.

We are 100 days away from the start of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. It is a symbolic milestone that the Queen of the Dolomites celebrates with a gesture with a strong identity value:the historic Piazza Roma changes its name to “Piazza dei Giochi Olimpici 1956-2026,” uniting thecity’stwo great Olympic adventures in a single embrace.

The square – from where the historic cable car to Pocol used to depart – has been completely redeveloped since 2012 and has returned a modern, scenic and functional public space to the town. Today, it is one of Cortina’s most representative places: it is home to the Spectaculars – the large installations of the Olympic Hoops and Paralympic Agitos – a visual symbol of the Olympic Legacy and has become a meeting point for citizens and visitors, as well as opening up to the extraordinary panorama of the Tofane mountain range that serves as its backdrop and frame.

The square with the Spectacular has a new name: 1956-2026 Olympic Games Square

A new emblem dedicated to the Games

The new emblem dedicated to the 70 years that separate one Olympics from the next will also be unveiled in the coming days. It was designed by Ampezzo graphic designer Francesca Ghezze, who was able to translate the community’s identity and values into a graphic sign. The new emblem, which will represent the city during the Olympics, is meant to be a bridge between past, present and future, a symbol that celebrates the continuity of an area that can boast two Olympics – 1956 and 2026 – a pride shared by only five cities in the world.

The emblem is based on a few key values:

  • Community in that it represents the cohesion and participation of citizens, the sense of belonging of a community that will huddle proudly to welcome the event, aware that they live in a unique place and know how to cherish it.
  • Olympic Values invokes friendship, respect and fairness: principles that inspire not only sports, but also the daily life of our community.
  • Historical continuity: the 1956-2026 reference underscores the 70-year history in which Cortina has become an international benchmark for sports, nature, culture and tradition.

This emblem encapsulates the soul of a community proud of its history and ready to welcome the future with Olympic enthusiasm. The logo will accompany the city’s communication until the Games and will be reproduced on dedicated billboards and flags that will be distributed to citizens.

Statements

Mayor Lorenzi and Deputy Mayor Alverà
Mayor Lorenzi and Deputy Mayor Alverà

Gianluca Lorenzi, Mayor of Cortina d’ Ampezzo: “To have the good fortune – and the responsibility – of hosting the Olympic Games for the second time is an honor that few places in the world can boast. We are less than 100 days away from an appointment that will go down in the history of Cortina and in the emotions of each of us.

This is a challenge that our community faces with unity and determination. We are a tenacious community, capable of confrontation, but it is only fair to recognize what has been done and give satisfaction to those who have worked hard to achieve this goal.

In 100 days Cortina will welcome more than 1,500 athletes; we will be ready to support them and make them feel all the warmth and pride of our people.

Today we are also celebrating a symbolic place in our town: the square that once housed the departure of the cable car to Pocol, later known as “ex Esso,” and which today has become an iconic space, overlooking a unique scenery – the Tofane, the 5 Torri, the Becco di Mezzodì. A place that best represents the rebirth and strength of Cortina.

These Olympics are an extraordinary opportunity that has allowed us to invest, renew and look to the future with confidence. Cortina is experiencing a moment of transformation that combines sports, culture and development, thanks to a system that works when we work together.

The path we have taken is bringing us important results. Everyone, with their own contribution, has made this collective growth possible.

The anticipation we are experiencing today is full of pride and is an incentive to continue with condetermination on the path we have embarked upon: to make Cortina ever more welcoming, modern and ready to show the world its beauty and identity.

The Olympics are not just a sporting event-they are an opportunity to celebrate our community, our history and the future we are building together.”

Roberta Alverà, deputy mayor of Cortina d’ Ampezzo: “Seventy years after the first Olympic adventure, Cortina renews its bond with history and looks to the future with the same spirit as then: that of those who believe in the power of sport, the beauty of the mountains and the value of a legacy that unites generations and nations.

The new celebratory logo tells its timeless identity – a sign that cherishes the memory of the past and projects it into a future of passion, tradition, and Ampezzo pride.”

L'articolo From Greece to Cortina: the path of the Olympic and Paralympic Flame. proviene da Speciale Olimpiadi e Paralimpiadi.

The Olympic flame has its roots in Olympia, Greece, where inancient times a sacred fire accompanied the celebrations of the Games; in modern times that rite has become the flashlight relay, which lights the Games by connecting territories and communities along its journey.

For Milan Cortina 2026, the official flashlight is called “Essential” and was designed by Carlo Ratti Associati studio: it is made in Italy, made mostly of recycled aluminum and brass, weighs about 1,060 grams (not including the cartridge), uses bio-LPG, and above all is reusable and rechargeable up to ten times, so as to reduce the number of units needed; the Olympic version is blue, the Paralympic version bronze (project with Cavagna Group and Versalis/ENI).

The flashlight has always been carried by torchbearers-athletes, volunteers, civil society figures-and for the 2026 edition, about 10,000 bearers are expected in Italy along a 63-day, 12,000-km route that will touch all 20 regions and 110 provinces, with about 60 city celebrations.

The ignition in Olympia is set for November 26, 2025, the handover in Athens for December 4, 2025, and the arrival in Italy (Rome) on the same day; from December 6, 2025, the relay will cross the Peninsula until February 6, 2026.
On that date, during the Opening Ceremony, two simultaneous braziers will be lit: in Milan at theArco della Pace and in Cortina d’Ampezzo in Piazza Angelo Dibona-a novelty made possible by the “spread” opening among several venues of the widespread Olympiad.

The Olympic flame will then be extinguished on Feb. 22, 2026, at the closing ceremony in the Verona Arena, which concludes the Winter Olympic Games: One of the official flashlight specimens will enter the permanent collection of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, in keeping with the IOC’s museum tradition, while the specimens displayed throughout the year will remain the property of the Organizing Committee, which will display them in various exhibitions.

Soon after, on Feb. 24, 2026, the journey of the Paralympic flame begins. The Paralympic flame leaves from Stoke Mandeville (UK), cradle of the Paralympic Movement, then arrives in Italy for an 11-day, approximately 2,000-kilometer journey with 500 torchbearers.
The program includes stage festivals in several cities (including Milan) and a flame uniting moment in Cortina d’Ampezzo on March 3, before arriving at theArena in Verona for the Opening Ceremony on March 6, 2026.

The Paralympic Games will be held from March 6 to 15, 2026. Upon completion, this flame will also be extinguished at the closing ceremony and the relay materials will reenter the collections of the Paralympic Movement.

The City of Cortina d’Ampezzo informs that the Milan Cortina 2026 Foundation has activated the School Ticketing program, an initiative dedicated to encouraging the participation of local students in the events of the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The project was created with the aim of bringing younger people into sports, conveying the values of inclusion, respect and healthy competition that characterize the Olympic and Paralympic spirit.

As a result of this program, 40,000 tickets will be made available to schools at subsidized rates:

  • 16 euros to attend Olympic competitions
  • 10 euros for Paralympic competitions

This is a major investment that the Foundation intends to support to ensure the widest possible participation and a unique experience of cultural, sporting and social growth for new generations.

To encourage the involvement of future generations as a goal of the Games’ legacy, the Organizing Committee has made available to the Ministry the opportunity to purchase exclusive tickets for school students from all over Italy to attend the sports competitions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It is specified that the Ministry has invited the regional school offices to inform schools in the area and collect, by October 20, 2025, requests for tickets to attend the competitions.

For more information and to consider purchasing tickets reserved for schools, the Milan Cortina 2026 Foundation ticketing office can be contacted at: ticketing@milanocortina2026.org

A call made through evocative images of Cortina’s most iconic mountains, accompanied by the iconic red squirrel symbol, placed in the baggage claim area that becomes an international showcase for the Queen of the Dolomites.

The initiative, which stems from an agreement between Cortina Marketing and the SAVE Group, is particularly aimed at raising awareness among travelers from long-haul destinations, which make up a growing traffic segment at Marco Polo.

“Venice Airport is in fact the airport of Cortina d’Ampezzo. This is why we are proud of the partnership struck with Save that promotes the image of Cortina in the arrivals area of the Venetian airport. At this time when Cortina and the rest of the territory is launched towards an international tourism development, following the visibility that the Olympics and Paralympics will give us, all the synergies with the realities interested in collaborating in this development become fundamental. Cortina Marketing is doing an excellent job precisely to foster these collaborations “-said Roberta Alverà, deputy mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

“The collaboration with Cortina Marketing, in following up on what we have already started with the Dolomiti Bellunesi Foundation, is part of our goal to reduce the seasonality of traffic flows at the Venice airport by extending them into the winter period. With less than 140 days to go before the event of the Olympics and Paralympics, for which Marco Polo is the official gateway to the Northeast, recalling the proximity of Cortina and the Dolomites to the airport is a valuable opportunity to reinforce this message together,” – said Camillo Bozzolo, Director of Aviation Development of SAVE Group.

The first locations earmarked for the 2026 Winter Olympics are finally taking shape in Cortina.

The current temporary parking lot in the area adjacent to the Ice Stadium – near Hotel Barisetti – will be closed to make way for facilities dedicated to the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Broadcasting service.

Broadcasting represents theset of television and multimedia production and broadcasting activities that will allow the Olympics to be told around the world, giving visibility to the event and to the image of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The intervention includes the installation of temporary structures – containers, tensile structures and technical spaces – functional for the management of international filming and broadcasting that will remain operational for the duration of the Olympics and Paralympics. The space will be dismantled at the end of the event next March 2026.

The City of Cortina points out that the parking lot in question had already been identified as temporary and that the areas have long been designated for the Olympic event. In order to avoid further complications to the road system and livability of the town, it was decided to start the work at this time, after the large summer tourist flow in August and before the winter season starts.

As of Monday, September 15, 2025, therefore, parking will no longer be available.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank citizens for understanding.
