Cortina is the bobsled run. I would like to express my sincere thanks to three people in particular: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, Eng. Elisabetta Pellegrini, Coordinator of the MIT Technical Mission Structure, and Arch. Fabio Saldini, Commissioner and CEO of SIMICO.
Political will was instrumental in preserving bobsledding in Cortina and upgrading the Eugenio Monti slope.
Keeping the Sliding Centre here has meant preserving a culture and a deep connection between bobsledding and the valley, continuing that red thread that connects us to the 1956 Olympic Games and that, 70 years later, will once again lead us to represent Olympic values before the whole world.
The technical side did an outstanding job, developing an innovative design and adapting it efficiently, meeting time, cost and ensuring high quality standards.
Today, after only 10 months, it is a real privilege for Cortina to see the new runway growing and to catch a glimpse of the many opportunities, not only in sports, that it will bring to our area. In addition, the project is generating major economic spin-offs, transformations and improvements that further strengthen the Cortina brand globally.
Heartfelt thanks are also due to Councillor Da Rin and the city offices for their invaluable support to all the players involved in this major work.
This project represents the perfect synthesis of how a cohesive and synergistic system can achieve ambitious goals. Collaboration and joint efforts demonstrate that when everyone contributes with expertise and dedication, extraordinary results can be achieved for the benefit of the entire community.
Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo
