At the presentation of the Veneto Region’s new accessibility guidelines, an event held on October 23 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Cortina d’Ampezzo Municipality’s Tourism Councillor Roberta Alverà officially announced the launch of the “Cortina for All” ideas competition. The initiative aims to promote and develop projects to improve accessible hospitality, in line with the goals of the 2026 Winter Paralympics.
Objectives of the competition
The “Cortina for All” competition is open to citizens, associations and anyone with an innovative idea to promote inclusion and accessibility in the areas of hospitality, services, infrastructure and tourist attractions.
Proposals can range from devices that improve accessibility in public spaces and hotel facilities, barrier-free mobility solutions, APPs and digital supports in accessible signage, sensory pathways and infrastructure for people with motor, visual or hearing disabilities, and management and maintenance of materials to support outdoor experiences. Project ideas should find a connection with the local area and be developed with the aim of creating models applicable in one or more local areas. II total cost of project implementation must not exceed 50,000 euros.
The prize of 5,000 euros
The winning project, selected at the sole discretion of the Cortina City Council, will receive a cash prize of 5,000 euros. Subsequently, the project will be acquired by the municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, which will undertake to develop it concretely.
Deadlines and how to participate
The competition is open to everyone, individuals and associations, and will end on January 31, 2025. Participation is free of charge, and proposals must be submitted according to the terms indicated in the call for proposals published on the official website of the City of Cortina.
Statements
Tourism Councilor Roberta Alverà, promoter of the initiative, said: “With the ‘Cortina for All’ competition, we want to raise awareness and involve as many people as possible to turn Cortina into an example of accessibility and inclusion, not only in view of the major sporting events of 2026, but also for the future. Our city must be a place where people of all ages and abilities can experience and enjoy the beauty of the area without barriers or limitations. I’m thinking, for example, not only of people with disabilities, but also of the elderly, pregnant women, children in strollers, or those who are temporarily impaired by injury and wish to enjoy a relaxing stay in Cortina.”
