Cortina enthusiastically welcomes the awarding of the Young Olympic Games 2028

The Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo expresses great satisfaction with the decision of the International Olympic Committee to assign some disciplines of the Young Olympic Games (YOG) 2028 to our territory. This recognition reinforces Cortina’s role as a center of excellence for winter sports at the international level.

The Young Olympic Games is an international sports event dedicated to young athletes between the ages of 15 and 18, organized by the International Olympic Committee with the aim of promoting Olympic values among the younger generation. The games combine high-level competitions with educational and cultural activities, offering future champions an important experience of both sporting and personal growth.

In particular, Cortina will host Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge and Curling competitions, disciplines that will already be featured during the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge competitions will take place at the new Sliding Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will be put to the test for the first time on a global scale precisely during the 2026 Winter Olympics. This facility, built through the redevelopment of the historic ‘Eugenio Monti’ slope, represents an important sporting legacy for the area, ensuring not only the continuity of international competitions, but also a reference center for the education and training of new generations of athletes.

Mayor Gianluca Lorenzi said, “We are extremely happy that Cortina has been chosen to host these disciplines. This recognition testifies to the trust placed in our community and is an excellent omen ahead of the 2026 Olympics. We will work hard to ensure impeccable organization and a warm welcome for all participants.”

The city administration, in cooperation with the institutions and partners involved, is committed to making the best possible preparations for this prestigious event, consolidating the experience gained in 2026 and laying the groundwork for a high-level event in 2028.
