We are less than a year away from the opening of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, an event that is transforming the face of our city and the surrounding area. The Olympics and Paralympics are not just a sporting challenge, but a unique opportunity to improve infrastructure and mobility, leaving a lasting legacy for the community.
In this context, the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo expresses great satisfaction with the favorable opinion of the EIA Regional Technical Commission regarding the Apollonio-Socrepes gondola lift project, a strategic infrastructure for the mobility of our territory.
“It is a great satisfaction for the Municipal Administration” , says Stefano Ghezze, Councillor with responsibility for Urban Planning and contact person for mobility upgrading projects for the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, “because we have overcome an important hurdle in a complex game. This project is strategic for Cortina because it introduces a concrete change in mobility management.”
The project, together with the work on the pedestrianization of Via Cesare Battisti and the implementation of Lot 0 (the construction of a road route along the Boite River), will contribute to a radical transformation of the road system and will give residents and tourists the opportunity to go directly up to the ski slopes via the new facility, improving traffic management in and out of the town center. “Our goal was to reduce traffic at high altitudes and optimize the use of parking spaces. This result represents a success in terms of mobility and environmental sustainability.” , adds Ghezze.
A milestone made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Government Commissioner Fabio Saldini, the Veneto Region and the institutions involved. “Teamwork was instrumental in achieving this complex goal.” stressed the Councillor.
“Cortina is changing in many aspects: mobility, construction, urban planning. We are experiencing a great renewal, the result of the opportunities related to the Olympics and Paralympics. Soon we will see a new Cortina, not different but renewed and ready to face future challenges.” , Ghezze concludes.
The City Council will continue to work with determination to ensure the success of these projects and to build an increasingly modern, sustainable and welcoming Cortina in preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
