Under the spotlight of the design and architecture world at Milan Design Week 2025, two of the mobile homes destined to make up the Olympic and Paralympic Village in Cortina d’Ampezzo, ahead of the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, were previewed.
The 377 cottages that will accommodate 1,400 athletes and companions represent a concrete example of innovation, sustainability and comfort. Designed and built largely in Italy, they are designed to offer the ultimate in functionality, accessibility and well-being. Each unit has two independent rooms, each with two beds and a bathroom. The furnishings are ergonomic, with air conditioning, bathroom fixtures, closets, and home automation systems. Fifty percent of the facilities will be accessible to all.
Constructed from recyclable and certified materials, the small houses provide high insulation performance and eco-friendly finishes. They possess EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification, which attests to their sustainability throughout their life cycle.
Three companies of excellence are participating in the construction of the mobile homes: CrippaCampeggio Srl, which specializes in the production of mobile homes; Losberger De Boer, a multinational company active in temporary modular structures; and Fratelli De Prà Spa, a company from Belluno based in Ponte nelle Alpi, which is in charge of installation and infrastructure works. The project is being coordinated by SIMICO (Società Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026).
Transport to Fiames is already underway: the units travel in pairs on special convoys, mostly at night, to ensure safety and efficiency. Currently on the Fiames area, ground preparation and leveling work is at an advanced stage, where the mobile homes will be positioned and set up using a modular system that enables rapid installation and reduced environmental impact. Assembly of the temporary buildings intended to house services and offices for the Federations will also begin in June.
The entire village will be elevated and made accessible via ramps and stairs. This configuration allows for the passage of service piping under the structures, avoiding underground laying and ensuring that, at the end of the event, the area can return to its original condition, without permanent changes to the ground.
The Fiames Olympic and Paralympic Village is scheduled to be delivered on October 30, 2025, fully on schedule. After the Games, the modules will be moved and returned to CrippaCamping, reducing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.
