XIV Paralympic Winter Games

The Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games took place from March 6 to 15, 2026 and featured 665 athletes from about 50 countries competing in 79 medal events in six disciplines: Paralympic alpine skiing, Paralympic biathlon, Paralympic cross-country skiing, Paralympic ice hockey, Paralympic snowboarding and wheelchair curling.

Cortina d’Ampezzo hosted three disciplines: paralympic alpine skiing, para snowboarding and wheelchair curling. Unlike the Olympics, no Paralympic competitions were held in Livigno, Bormio or Anterselva: the Games were held between Cortina, Milan and Val di Fiemme/Predazzo.
Disciplines such as parabob, skeleton, and luge are not included in the Paralympic program; therefore, the Cortina Sliding Centre has not been included among the Paralympic competition venues.

Calendar of Paralympic Alpine Skiing Competitions

All alpine skiing (men’s and women’s trials) was staged in Cortina on the Olympia slope of the Tofane Mountains.
The busiest program was in alpine skiing itself, with seven days of competitions in which medals were awarded virtually every day: March 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Para snowboarding

A little further downstream, in the Socrepes area, the Cortina Para Snowboard Park competed on the course set up in the San Zan area, with jumps, undulations and parabolic curves typical of snowboardcross competitions. The set-up included working and shaping the course with technical snow, with attention also paid to restoring the terrain at the end of the event. Paralympic Snowboarding is an extremely fast and competitive sport. At Milan Cortina 2026, there were six men’s and two women’s competitions. Athletes competed in the disciplines of banked slalom and snowboard cross. The competition days were March 7 and 8 and March 14, with medals awarded on March 8 and 14.

Wheelchair curling

Wheelchair curling was hosted at the Olympic Ice Stadium, a modernized and expanded facility (new locker rooms, elevators and ramps), with interventions that facilitated access for athletes and spectators, including those with motor or sensory disabilities. Internationally, the discipline has been particularly awaited because Milan Cortina 2026 also debuted the mixed doubles specialty in the Paralympic program.
The schedule was very tight: some sessions started as early as March 4, before the Opening Ceremony, and continued daily until March 14, with medal days from March 11 to 14.

The competing athletes

Italy came to the Games with a large delegation: the Italian Paralympic Committee indicated a team of 40 athletes (in addition to guide athletes), engaged in the six disciplines of the overall Games program. Among the most eagerly awaited Italian athletes in Cortina was René De Silvestro, Italy’s flag-bearer at Milan Cortina 2026: a native of San Vito di Cadore, who brought a message of sport and community to the home slopes that speaks to the entire territory.
